Genshin Impact 5.8's Stygian Onslaught introduces a brand-new combat challenge mode, full of drama and challenging players to explore. So, what makes this event special, how strong are the bosses, and what are the winning strategies? Hobiverse will reveal all in the following article.
What is the Stygian Onslaught in Genshin Impact 5.8 like?
The Stygian Onslaught (also known as Evil Illusions) is a prominent combat challenge mode in Genshin Impact 5.8, launching in late July 2025. It is part of the "Sunspray Summer Resort" summer event, taking place on a new island in Natlan.

The Stygian Onslaught opens up a new world, enchanting and challenging, where players will be drawn into a seemingly surreal space. This mode requires players to build a strong team to overcome increasing levels of monsters and bosses. Players will be rewarded with Primogems, Mora, Hero's Wit, and upgrade materials upon completing the challenges.
With high difficulty, especially at levels 5 and 6, the Stygian Onslaught is a place for gamers to showcase their combat skills and earn valuable rewards.
Bosses in Genshin Impact 5.8's Stygian Onslaught
Abyssal Imitation Root
HP (Difficulty 5/6): 6.42M / 11.54M
This boss possesses a powerful Void Shield with 150 points, much higher than the 72 points in Floor 12 of the Spiral Abyss. Each elemental damage hit (without requiring application) reduces 1 shield point, while damage from Night Soul reduces 3 points. When the shield is broken, the boss enters a weakened state, losing a portion of HP and taking more damage, especially if the shield-breaking damage comes from Night Soul. However, when the shield regenerates, the boss will reform the Void Shield, and if not broken in time, the boss will use a finishing move, instantly defeating the active character.
To defeat this boss, prioritize using Night Soul characters to break the shield quickly, as each Night Soul hit reduces 3 shield points. If you don't have Night Soul characters, use continuous elemental attacks at a fast pace to break the shield before the boss can use its finishing move. When the boss is weakened, unleash all your skills and powerful attacks to take advantage of the bonus damage.

Cocijo
HP (Difficulty 5/6): 6.35M / 12.87M
Cocijo has an extremely dangerous counter-shield mechanic. Each time it is attacked, Cocijo accumulates 3 energy points and loses 4 points per second. When it reaches 30 points, Cocijo will create a thick Electro shield with 32 points. All attacks on Cocijo while the Electro shield is active will be reflected with a massive amount of damage, potentially endangering your entire team.
To deal with Cocijo, the key is to control the boss's energy points. Avoid spamming small attacks; instead, use powerful attacks to deal burst damage in a short amount of time. When Cocijo creates the Electro shield, stop attacking immediately and focus on dodging the reflected damage. Only resume attacking after the shield disappears.

Pipilpan Idol
HP (Difficulty 5/6): 6.25M / 10.2M
Pipilpan Idol is a new boss in version 5.8, with a combat mechanic centered around Electro-Charged reactions. This boss will summon three cones and hide inside one. The cones move continuously, but if hit by Electro-Charged or Lunar Electro-Charged damage, they will stop. Each cone has 40% HP and extremely high resistance to all elements except Hydro and Electro. The cones also take 300% damage from Electro-Charged and Lunar Electro-Charged reactions. When the cone Pipilpan Idol is hiding in is destroyed, the boss will be weakened, have reduced elemental resistance, and lose a large amount of HP.
To defeat Pipilpan Idol, you need to maximize Electro-Charged and Lunar Electro-Charged reactions. Quickly identify the cone the boss is hiding in, then use Hydro or Electro elements to destroy it. Since the cones move continuously, using Electro-Charged damage will help keep the boss still, creating an opportunity to deal concentrated damage to Pipilpan Idol. When a cone is destroyed, the boss will be weakened, and you can unleash all your skills to deal massive damage. Repeat this process until the boss's HP is depleted.
