In the pirate-filled world of One Piece, with its intense battles, there are also gentle, heartwarming moments that melt viewers' hearts. One such moment is when Nami first meets Chopper in the snowy kingdom of Drum. This encounter not only paved the way for a new member to join the Straw Hat Pirates but also marked the beginning of an adorable sister-brother bond.
If you're looking to revisit this "double dose of cuteness" moment, let Hobiverse take you back in time to discover it!
What episode and chapter did Nami first meet Chopper?
To save you from waiting, here are the exact coordinates of this legendary scene across all versions:
-
In the Anime: The fateful meeting begins in Episode 83 and fully unfolds in Episode 84 (titled: "The Blue-Nosed Reindeer! Chopper's Secret").
-
In the Manga: If you're a manga reader, turn to Chapter 139 (from Volume 16) to witness the super cute appearance of the reindeer boy.
Additionally, in the Live Action version (Netflix), this super cute scene appears in Season 2, Episode 6, titled "Nami Deerest." You'll get to see the adorable CGI rendition of Chopper the reindeer the moment Nami wakes up inside Drum Island's icy castle.
The context of the meeting: Gentleness defeats fear
It all started with a very "unstable" situation. After leaving Little Garden, navigator Nami suddenly contracted the ancient Kestia virus and developed a high fever of nearly 40 degrees Celsius.
To save their comrade, Luffy and Sanji had to carry Nami through a snowstorm, climbing the sheer cliffs of Drum Island to find Dr. Kureha. There, fate led Nami to meet the blue-nosed reindeer, Tony Tony Chopper.
The "upside-down hide-and-seek" that went down in history
When Nami woke up in the castle, she saw a small creature secretly observing her. The detail that made fans burst into laughter was Chopper's "unique" hide-and-seek habit: Instead of hiding his body and revealing his eyes, he hid his eyes behind the wall but revealed his entire round body.
A gentle touch that soothed a wounded heart
Before meeting the Straw Hat Pirates, Chopper was always considered a "monster" and shunned. While Luffy and Sanji, upon waking up, immediately demanded to... make Chopper into a hotpot, mistaking him for emergency food, Nami was the only one who treated him with gentleness.
She smiled, praised his cuteness, gave him a piece of chocolate, and spoke to him gently. Nami's warmth and lack of judgment were the first keys that allowed Chopper to trust humans, realizing that he too could become a real doctor.
From "Weakling Trio" to a "Special Privilege" bond
After Chopper officially joined the Going Merry, the relationship between Nami and this youngest member grew closer. The two, along with Usopp, formed the "Weakling Trio," known for their comedic antics whenever the Straw Hat Pirates faced trouble.
However, Chopper enjoys "privileges" that any male member of the crew would envy. Being so small and adorable, he is often hugged by Nami, pampered to the fullest, and even comfortably bathes or sleeps in the same room with the hot navigator without receiving any "love punches."
