Entering the final Saga of One Piece, the giant island of Elbaf reveals the most shocking secrets in history. All fan theories now revolve around one great "plot anchor": The Elbaf Mural in One Piece.
Appearing alongside the ancient Harley Book of One Piece, this millennia-old fresco not only preserves memories of Joy Boy and the Void Century but also contains the Elbaf prophecy about the world's ultimate end. Join Hobiverse as we uncover the most valuable details hidden within this treasure.
When did the Elbaf Mural in One Piece appear?
Context of the ancient painting's creation
In chapter 1138, author Oda recreated a magnificent scene through a colossal fresco carved and fossilized directly onto the bark of the great Adam Tree of Treasure.
The rough, time-worn strokes still contain eternal power, estimated to be from 800 to 900 years ago – the time of the ancient kingdom's collapse.
This period perfectly coincides with the great war of the Void Century, making the painting a living historical witness in stone.

The roles of Nico Robin and Jaguar D. Saul
The main storyline officially brings readers to an emotional reunion at the Owl Library – where Jaguar D. Saul keeps all the precious documents saved from Ohara. Here, Saul introduced Nico Robin to the ancient Harley Book of One Piece (Harley Codex) bearing a blazing sun symbol on its cover.
As the only archaeologist who can read ancient texts, Robin deciphered the connection between the ancient poems in the Harley book and the carvings on the fresco, revealing the truth hidden by the World Government for centuries.
Elbaf Prophecy and "3 Worlds" in the Harley Codex: Predetermined Past and Future
According to Saul's explanation, the ancient Harley book is divided into three chapters, corresponding to the "3 Worlds" of human history:
First World: The Origin of the World
The first chapter depicts a poetic primordial era, when gods and ancient races lived in peace under the shade of the Yggdrasil tree. The rounded, soft carvings show an original world not yet divided by the Red Line or the boundaries of the sea.
Second World: The Void Century and the Collapse
The narrative darkens in the second chapter, recording the death of Joy Boy and the tragedy that occurred during the time of Joy Boy and the Void Century. The fresco depicts the Nika-like warrior falling, followed by a 200m high deluge that swallowed kingdoms.
The precious detail is the image of the giant Noah's Ark carrying refugees through the raging waves.
Third World: Rebirth Apocalypse and the New Era
This is a prophecy about the future. The fresco depicts the final battle where new-era warriors: Luffy (Gear 5/Nika), the ancient robot Emet, Sun God Loki, and Zunesha fight alongside against a colossal dark entity with two horns.
Luffy's appearance at the center of this millennia-old painting is a confirmation of the fate of Joy Boy's successor.
Top 4 "Easter Eggs" Hidden in the Elbaf Mural of One Piece
Besides the main plot details, the global One Piece fan community has proposed many thought-provoking theories surrounding this fresco:
Strange connection with the Moon and the "D" Clan
Many theories suggest that the mechanical gear system on the Elbaf mural bears a striking resemblance to the ancient technology on the Moon that Enel once discovered.
This reinforces the theory that Joy Boy's ancient kingdom originated from outer space, and the "D" clan are those with Moon blood.
The presence of Ancient Weapons and the Maxim ship
Above the fresco appears a colossal flying machine emitting lightning. Some fans associate it with Enel's Maxim ship, but most analysts believe this is the true appearance of the Ancient Weapon Uranus.
Hidden meaning behind Franky's shadow
A deeply meaningful detail embedded by Oda is Franky's approach to the roots of the Adam Tree of Treasure – right at the bottom corner of the fresco. Having memorized all the blueprints for the Ancient Weapon Pluton, the extreme astonishment on the Straw Hat shipwright's face raises a big question.
The international fan community theorizes that Franky's gigantic shoulder in the frame deliberately obscures a corner of the fresco at the base of the tree. It is very likely that the hidden pattern is the actual shape of the destructive battleship Pluton, or a pivotal symbol that Oda does not want to reveal too soon.
The "Hidden Image Layer" theory when folding paper
The international online community once tested a bold theory: Folding chapter 1138 of the manga along the lines of the fresco.
The result gave many goosebumps as the blocks strangely aligned, creating an allegorical image resembling Imu's face and the Gorosei entities surrounding the world.
This method of concealing double visual information, if it truly was the author's intention, is proof of Oda's incredibly meticulous layout and arrangement.
What does the Elbaf mural reveal about the end of One Piece and Luffy's dream?
Breaking the cycle of destruction
Previous historical cycles all ended in tragedy: Joy Boy failed, the world was submerged, power fell into the hands of the Celestial Dragons.
However, Luffy's appearance with his playful Gear 5, breaking all laws of physics, is a variable beyond all predictions of fate.
Luffy doesn't fight for historical duty; he fights for absolute freedom. This spirit will break the dark cycle that has lasted for centuries.
Luffy's true dream
The Elbaf prophecy opens up a future where sea levels are re-balanced and continents are connected. Luffy's dream of "sharing a giant feast with everyone in the world" perfectly matches the fresco of the Third World after the darkness is repelled.
An era without racial discrimination, without oceans separating people, where humans and giants can toast and drink together.
