One Piece unexpectedly switches to a seasonal (cour) broadcast schedule
The biggest news came from Toei's recent livestream: Starting in 2026, the One Piece anime will officially be reduced to only 26 new episodes per year.
This was surprising news for fans because the One Piece anime has been broadcast almost weekly for many years. This new schedule will divide the broadcast into two cours per year. Ryuta Koike, the series producer at Toei Animation, explained that this change is a strategic decision to support the advancement and development of the animated series. In the future, under the two-cour structure, new episodes will incorporate more content, pacing, and speed from the manga while continuing to utilize unique storytelling only possible with animation.
Fans have complained about repeated filler scenes or drawn-out plotlines.
