Even though Season 5 ended quite completely, hard-core fans still have tons of questions about the origin of the Mind Flayer and the government's experiments. It's highly likely this will be a prequel, going back to the initial experimental phase in Nevada, before everything converged on Hawkins.
Where did the black stone come from? Why does it have the power to connect with The Abyss?
Will we see a young Brenner and his father's dark experiments on the legendary USS Eldridge?
Is the man with the suitcase a Russian defector? The spin-off may further clarify the Soviet Union's ambitions to control power from another dimension, a topic that was left somewhat unresolved in previous seasons.
No Hawkins, no Eleven, can it still be engaging?

The Stranger Things spin-off will no longer revolve around Hawkins. The Duffer brothers want to build a completely new cast of characters to avoid "relying on past glories."
Changing the setting to another town and another timeline (perhaps the 50s or 60s) will give the show new life. We can hope for more psychological, investigative horror rather than pure monster battles. However, familiar faces like a young Dr. Brenner still have a chance to appear to connect the storyline.
