Even though it ended a long time ago, the Gintama movie continues to "reappear in the world" in a unique way - this time with a compilation film of Kintama Arc that will officially hit Japanese theaters on November 22, 2024. This is the third part of the Gintama on Theater 2D project series to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Hideaki Sorachi's Gintama manga - a series like no other about samurai, aliens, and a lot of... unbeatable pranks.
Gintama On Theater: Project to "revive" legendary arcs
Announced in 2023, Gintama on Theater is a special film project that compiles the most famous arcs of the Gintama movie to return to theaters for loyal fans. The first two parts of the film have been successfully aired:
-
Baragaki-hen (Thorny Arc): Released November 2023
-
Ikkoku Keisei-hen (Courtesan of a Nation Arc): premieres June 21, 2024, with many attractive gifts for audiences in the first week
And soon, Kintama Arc, one of the most... funny and sad arcs of the Gintama movie , will follow its seniors to the big screen.
Kintama Arc – When Gintoki was replaced by a perfect "error"
Kintama Arc lasts from episode 253 to 256 of Gintama movie , which aired in October 2012. The content begins when Gintoki - our main character - suddenly disappears without a trace. Meanwhile, a mysterious man named Kintoki appears with a sparkling appearance, flowing blond hair, completely different from the "sloppy, domineering, carefree" Gintoki. Kintoki Sakata has a calm attitude, extraordinary skills and takes the "center" position of the Odd Jobs group.
The scary thing? Everyone – from Kagura to Shinpachi – gradually forgot about Gintoki and saw him as a long-time close friend.
The twists and turns, the emotional action, and the profound messages about identity and existence make the Kintama Arc one of the most memorable parts of the series.
Why does Kintama Arc deserve to be released in theaters?
The ultimate "troll" spirit - typical of Gintama
Just from the name "Kintama" (a very... funny wordplay), this arc has made viewers laugh out loud. But not only that, this part of the movie is also a big twist about loyalty, memory and human nature. Gintama always knows how to hide deep messages under the cover of humor - and Kintama Arc is a typical example.
HD edited images, cinematic experience
Unlike the TV version, the theatrical version will be edited smoother and sharper – well worth experiencing again on the big screen.
Gintama's 20th Anniversary – A Chance to Relive Youth
If you grew up with Gintama, you definitely won't want to miss this special occasion. Relive familiar moments, laugh out loud with friends, and reminisce about the early days of watching Yorozuya Gin-san on the small screen.

Legendary voice actors attend the launch event
In the special event on June 22 at Shinjuku Wald 9 theater, the veteran seiyuu (voice actors) participating included:
-
Tomokazu Sugita – Gintoki Sakata
-
Daisuke Sakaguchi – Shinpachi Shimura
-
Rie Kugimiya – Kagura
-
Yuki Ono – Shigeshige Tokugawa
Their presence further confirms the serious (and humorous) investment level of this Gintama movie project.
