Horror master Junji Ito's Uzumaki anime is getting a lot of hype as its premiere date has been set. So, what's in store for this upcoming anime?
Uzumaki anime release date
The Uzumaki anime will officially release on September 28, 2024.
Viewers can catch the anime on Adult Swim, with a rerun the following day on HBO Max. The English-dubbed version of the anime will re-air every Thursday.
Since its inception in the early 1960s, Japanese animation has come a long way, with countless hit anime series being created such as Naruto, One Piece, Dragon Ball and many more that we cannot count. Although the anime industry was mainly focused on action, fantasy and romance, since the 2000s, anime has seen the emergence of many other genres, especially horror.
Series like Gantz, Another, Higurashi: When They Cry, and Ajin are all quite similar to the Uzumaki anime in terms of depicting horror in various ways, both through violence and psychological horror, but Uzumaki will still outstrip most other series, if for no other reason than its creator is horror master Junji Ito.
The Uzumaki anime is adapted from the popular manga series of the same name, revolving around a high school girl named Kirie Goshima and the residents of her small town Kurouzu-cho, which is haunted by a mysterious entity related to spirals.

Why is the anime Uzumaki so highly rated?
When it comes to the horror genre, there have been many anime that have come before and are highly regarded. There are certainly manga and anime that have received more attention, but none of them have been able to strike fear into the hearts of audiences like the Uzumaki anime.
Every character, even the minor ones, has a certain level of importance in the story, which explains why they fall victim to the spiral curse or are just people who want to see this world burn down.
Combined with the author’s extraordinary art style, which allows him to express horror to the extreme, this manga has a bit of “light”. Junji Ito’s name is extremely famous in the industry, his series are always extremely attractive without giving away important details at the beginning of the story. With each chapter, the reader gets closer to the truth but also further away from reality. Uzumaki can be considered his greatest work, which is why this anime is highly anticipated even before its premiere.

In the trailer that aired on Adult Swim, many fans were amazed at how the anime captured the true essence of the manga by incorporating black and white drawings into the animation as well as the hauntingly engaging storytelling.
The attention to detail is one of the best parts of the Uzumaki manga, which is evident in the careful way the author handles each panel in the manga and how each twist seems to come to life. While the plot isn't the highlight of Uzumaki, the storytelling is still incredibly creepy, combining gore and horror scenes.
